It seems that humans will always have a desire to learn about what others are doing, and our voyeuristic tendencies are always present to some extent. Without them, the existence of paparazzi would be severely threatened, and this profession would probably disappear from the face of the Earth. Celebrities are especially “under the attack” of curiosity, and some people would go to great lengths just to learn a thing or two about the daily activities of their favorite singers, actors or sports stars. Seeing them in compromising moments is particularly attractive, and the vast majority of people are buying tabloids only for this reason – to find something compromising about their favorite celebrity and then to defend them in front of their friends, or to be on the accusing side.
Either way, it is a fact that people like to take a look at somebody else’s business, and whether we like to admit it or not, this is one of our oldest instincts. It could even be said that looking what others are doing is a remnant of long-lost survival instinct, where you had to be alert and look what others are doing so you wouldn’t be in for a nasty surprise. Of course, this theory is slightly exaggerated, but there could be some truth in it, and looking at celebrity pictures and learning how others are behaving sets standards for our behavior. Trendsetters existed from the very dawn of the human kind, and people with vision were always leading the masses, and they had enough courage to “bravely go where no man has gone before”. Nowadays, this pattern is replicated in the form of celebrities who are setting the trends in clothing, acting, singing, dancing, drinking, partying, etc., and they are the real role models in today’s society.
In some cases, it turns out that celebrities are not worthy of such a position, and they set negative examples for young ones and our children, but, on the other hand, numerous music or TV stars are behaving in the best possible way. Their examples are also followed by thousands or even millions of fans, and this may be one of the reasons why celebrity pictures need to be promoted on a slightly larger scale. Media groups and the entire entertainment industry can influence our behavior patterns and our entire world views, and this is something that should not be taken for granted.
Popular celebrity pictures will certainly appear more and more since the development of smartphones and tablets has turned almost anyone into an aspiring photographer, and the need for professional paparazzi is diminishing, slowly but surely. However, ordinary people are usually not willing to spend entire nights in front of an entrance or to walk miles in the scorching sun just to try and catch a celebrity on a crowded beach. The task is evidently a challenging one, but as long as there is a need for such photos – there will be somebody who will supply “the goods”.
